ALISO VIEJO, Calif. – March 25, 2008 – UST GlobalSM, a leading provider

it will launch next month a global worksite wellness program focused on the continual

Newton to Champion Health and Work/Life Balance Through Employee Well Being
|
Societal and workplace demands as well as personal responsibilities too often leave
people juggling multiple—and often conflicting—demands on their time, which negatively
impacts their physical wellbeing. Other obstacles individuals face include knowing
what to do to live a better life and then taking action on that knowledge—both of
which are imperative to improving health.
UST Global is investing in and building a global wellness initiative on behalf of
its associates to ensure that its business success does not come at the expense
of employee health. The company believes that by promoting the wellbeing of its
workforce today, the result will be:
 |
Increased overall health |
 |
Higher morale |
 |
Greater productivity |
 |
Fewer sick days |
 |
Reduced healthcare costs |
"Too many people take their health for granted until something goes wrong. I want
to make a positive and meaningful impact on the wellbeing and quality of life of
every associate," said Barry Newton, chief wellness officer, UST Global. "The mission
of this wellness initiative is to empower our team members to make conscious, healthy
choices and decrease health risks wherever possible. We will provide the tools to
help employees be more informed and engaged in the management of their health so
that they can enjoy the long-term benefits of a healthy lifestyle."
The Ways to Wellness program will address the individual needs of men and women
and provide them with ways to improve their:
 |
Nutrition |
 |
Physical fitness |
 |
Sleep quality |
 |
Stress reduction |
 |
Life balance – work/family |

Ways to Wellness: Health Options Aimed to Appeal to Each Employee
|
Because everyone faces different challenges in how to achieve and maintain optimal
health, the program will focus on preventative measures that include a balanced
diet (nutrition, food quality and portion control), exercise (ranging from walking
and yoga to resistance training and cardio activity), and regular health exams.
The goal is to provide the structure, motivation, educational content and fitness
tools to inspire employees who are not already on a path to healthy living to start
making better choices in their daily life and for those who have started to support
them in their quest to achieve optimal health.
Work has begun on the development of an online tool to track fitness and nutritional
progress. Incentives are planned to promote participation and progress in the Ways
to Wellness program, a strictly voluntary initiative, with the goal to ignite a
passion for healthy living among all employees.
The program includes:
 |
Personalized health assessment |
 |
Bi-weekly wellness newsletter |
 |
Intranet wellness page that links to educational and motivational content |
 |
"Ask Barry" button to email wellness questions |
 |
Quarterly health fairs both on-site and at client locations
|
 |
Company-sponsored gym membership discount |
 |
Employee assessment / progress tracking
